Most people can say
that they have a Bible somewhere in the house. Or
have seen one sometime in their life time. That is
people of a free country. Maybe we forget there is a
world of people that never have one or seen one. Maybe we
forget how many people would like to have one.
Today I was told
about a man who cried when a Bible was placed in his
hands. You see he knew about the Bible, but all he had
was a couple of the books of the Bible. Matthew, and
John. He knew each of the words in those two books.
But he never owned a complete Bible. He made a
trip to a place in hopes he could trade his two books for a
couple other books of the Bible. Instead here he finds
himself in a line of people, and he being late was last
in the line - last in a line of people that was in hopes of
being given a Bible. A group of ladies had made a trip
to this small nation In Africa. The ladies were handing
out Bibles. The man last in line was now hoping for a
complete Bible. He received the last Bible, held it in
his hands, and broke down crying. At last he had a
complete Bible.
He had walked miles
to this place in hopes of making a trade of the two books, he
knew by heart, for a couple he had only heard of.
Instead, now he had a complete Bible, a treasury of God's
word, the complete Bible. It was a dream come
true.
We in this land of
America, can go many places, and maybe see a Bible. Do
we know the value of it? Ask the man who has none, or
maybe just a few pages of one.
Where is your Bible?
I can bet I know where that man's Bible is - one of two
places, in his hands or on the kitchen table where he can read
it. It sure isn't on the bottom of a table, or under a pile of
other things. It is his prize, he will guard it with his
life. The living word of God.
What is the value of
a Bible? Ask a man who had but two books of the Bible. A
man who walked miles to make a trade, walked the many miles
home holding on to his very own Bible. A man with tears
of joy streaming from his eyes, giving thanks to God and the
ladies who came with a box of Bibles.
